Veils Of The Heart
Charlie Hall

The task of the worship leader is to connect to God, and cause others to connect to Him with you. However, both worship leaders and worshippers have barriers to that connection. I call these barriers veils. Veils are simply layers that begin to mask the heart, such as anger toward a person, a desire to be entertained during worship, bitterness from past experiences, false perceptions of God, that girl or guy that's looking pretty good, and the list could go on and on.

Dealing with the veils begins by asking the Holy Spirit to reveal to you what your veils are. This can be done in personal devotion, a worship team practice or in a corporate setting. As the Holy Spirit begins to reveal these barriers, each person should simply say to God, "here is my veil (or veils). Father I give them to you. Please take it and cause me to worship freely. If you are doing this with a group, allow them time to listen, pray, and respond.

As you walk people through this remember to do it with compassion, not with judgment or condemnation. The goal is a sweet, intimate, grateful connection to God. As the worship leader, you can be a connector of people to God by helping them give their hearts wholly and purely to God, unveiled.
